Minor Surgery

Dr Mayland and Dr Rastall carry out minor surgical procedures at Beechwood surgery by appointment. The Cryo Clinic is also held twice a month by a Nurse Practitioner, by appointment only. Please ask reception regarding dates.

Non-NHS Examinations

Insurance reports, private health checks, HGV medicals and private letters etc, are all undertaken by the GPs. Reception can advise you of fees is posted in the waiting room. No personal information will be provided to companies/individuals without the prior written consent of the patient concerned.

Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations

Please make an appointment with our Practice Nurse at least four to six weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover.

Flu Vaccinations

An influenza vaccination is recommended for patients with diabetes, CHD, asthma, CKD, residents of nursing and residential homes and all patients over 65 years of age. If you are eligible we will contact you with a date. If you are unable to attend the surgery, a home visit will be arranged.

Pregnancy

Contraception advice is provided by all our doctors. However, Dr Louise King and Dr Caroline Taylor have specific family planning training. Dr King is also trained in coil fitting. Contraceptive sub-dermal implant insertions and removals are available from Dr King and Nurse Practitioner Judith Fennelly.

Antenatal And Postnatal Information

Your Midwife will see you throughout your pregnancy when you will receive a series of blood tests and an early scan. The contact number for the Midwife is 01422 251095. The Health Visitor will come and visit after the birth of your child and can give you valuable information as well as help. She will advise you on baby clinics and childhood immunisations.

PREFERENCE OF DOCTORS

Patients may express a preference of practitioner, though this cannot be upheld for emergency appointments.

MINOR ILLNESS SCHEME

The surgery operates a minor illness scheme whereby patients who qualify for free prescriptions can obtain advice and prescriptions from the chemist regarding many minor illnesses, without the need to see a doctor. This 'passport' scheme is for MINOR ILLNESSES such as sore throats, earache, colds and flu etc. If you have a minor illness ask the receptionist for details of this scheme.

SMS TEXTING

We can use text messages to remind you of appointments, issue test results or give out other important information. Just let reception know your mobile telephone number if you are interested.

MEDICAL CERTIFICATES

Certain medical certificates are issued free of charge. Please ask for confirmation from reception if you require clarification.
